Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat unwanted spider veins and small varicose veins, most commonly on the legs. It involves injecting a special solution into the affected veins, causing them to collapse and be reabsorbed by the body over time.
What is Asclera®?
Asclera® (polidocanol) is an FDA-approved sclerosing agent used to treat:
- Uncomplicated spider veins (small < 1 mm)
- Uncomplicated reticular veins (blue/green veins 1–3 mm)
Asclera® is gentle, effective, and causes minimal discomfort during treatment..
How Does It Work?
When injected into the vein, Asclera® irritates the vein lining, causing it to seal shut. Over time, the body naturally absorbs the treated vein, and blood reroutes through healthier veins nearby.
What to Expect During Treatment
- The procedure takes 30-60 minutes depending on the number of veins being treated.
- A fine needle is used to inject Asclera® directly into the veins.
- You may feel mild stinging or tingling during the injection.
- Compression stockings will be applied afterward to support healing.
Expected Results
- Treated veins will begin to fade in 3–6 weeks, with full results visible after a few months.
- Multiple sessions may be needed depending on the extent of the veins.
- Treated veins will not reappear, but new veins may develop over time and can be treated similarly.
